Spotify Adds New Social Networking and Library Features
- Blog tags:
Today Spotify, the greatest music streaming service on the web, added a whole truckload of new features for both premium members free users. This is a biggie, too!
Spotify notes:
We’ve started rolling out the update to users today, however, it will take us a number of days to get it to everyone. Once we’re ready to update your account it will happen automatically upon restart so you won’t need to do anything.
The new social network features include:
* All users can now connect to Facebook inside of Spotify. This option allows you to instantly add all your Facebook friends using Spotify so that their profiles appear in a new ‘People’ sidebar on right side of the screen. Your new personal profile now appears at the top.
* You can also add people to your friends list too by using the search field and typing their Spotify username (example: ‘spotify:user:username') to bring up their profile (assuming their profile is published).
* Publish publish the link your Spotify profile to on your blog, website, Facebook page, etc.
* There's now an ‘inbox’ folder on the left sidebar allowing you to send tracks to friends directly within the platform with a drag and drop of any song track(s) on their respective name in the People sidebar. Right clicking on the track also allows you to accomplish the same goal by selecting the new ‘send to’ option.
* A new Facebook feed publishes a list of music tracks your friends have posted on Facebook. This is visible on the ‘What’s new’ page as well as within the new ‘Feed’ tab.
* All playlists will display a popularity count showing how many other Spotify users subscribe to that playlist. If you click on the number, you can view the usernames of the people who have added that particular playlist.
* Track when a playlist is updated/changed and who did it. This information is visible in the new ‘Added’ and ‘User’ columns in playlists.
The new library features include
* You can now import a link to all your local music files stored on your computer with a simple click of a button.
o Gracenote software allows you to check music files for missing or incorrect track information and automatically correct them so that you can better organise and link them to the Spotify catalogue.
o Spotify will check your local files to see if they already have that track/artist/album info in Spotify. If they do, the file will be linkable so you can go from that file into an artist or album page. Thus, you can more easily share playlists containing a mix of your own music and along with that currently within the Spotify catalogue.
* Every track and album within the Spotify music catalogue can now be ‘starred’ to allow for tagging your favourites into a new sub-folder.
* Easily copy your music files to your mobile without connecting a USB cable with a new wireless sync feature.
* There is a permanent filter-bar in the library at the top so you can easily search. NOTE: In all other lists the filter bar is visible when pressing cmd-f (mac) or ctrl-f (windows).
Additional features released today:
* New artwork for playlists that includes the first nine tracks in a playlist to create a mosaic image for your playlist.
* A new toolbar in headers to more easily sharing music your friends on Facebook and Twitter. It also allows you to easily subscribe/unsubscribe to a playlist and view information about playlist popularity.
* A share icon in ‘Now playing’. You can easily share what music you are currently listening to.
* Spotify now automatically attempts to find a replacement track within their catalogue for any song you cannot play. Like if a buddy in another country shares a playlist with you and there are some songs you can’t play. NOTE: A ‘link’ icon will appear next to the track name in order to represent any track(s) that have been replaced.
