Creating a Spotify Playlist
- Blog tags:
A basic introduction on how to create a playlist in Spotify.
First, what's a playlist? A playlist is a saved collection of tracks you have individually chosen that you may listen to continuously and add to/delete from as you so desire. As it linked to your account, you have total control over it even if you share it with other people. People that are new to Spotify sometimes confuse a playlist with the play queue. The play queue is different from a playlist in that it is only available during the current session and is not saved once you logout from that given session.
On to it...
There are a number of ways to create a playlist in Spotify:
1 - Click on the button "+ New playlist" at the bottom of the left column;
2 - Using the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+N";
3 - Click on the large "+" button at the top right of the left column; and/or
4 - Left click on "File" at the top left of the screen and select the first option from the drop down (New Playlist...).
A play list may also be created on the fly by highlighting a song or group of songs (holding down the "Shift" key on the keyboard while selecting straight column of tracks or holding down the "Ctrl" key while selecting multiple non-neighboring tracks) and then right-clicking the mouse and select the option "Save to" and then "New Playlist"
All playlists can be renamed by right-clicking on the respective playlist.
Your playlists can be edited as you so desire.
Additional information
A collaborative playlist (one where you and your friends work together making a playlist) can be made by right-clicking on the playlist you wish to allow others to add to. This playlist will now be green within your Spotify client.
